This year’s legislative session is ending on Monday. This week was dominated by more news about Mayor Pugh though, unfortunately. It turns out that Mayor Pugh was also paid almost $200,000 by Kaiser Permanente and Associated Black Charities for “her books.” These payments were around the same time as when city contracts were voted on by Pugh and the city’s spending board. It’s also been revealed that she Mayor Pugh sponsored dozens of bills affecting hospitals in Maryland while she was paid by UMMS for her books. She also received a $7,500 check to Healthy Holly LLC from the Maryland Automobile Insurance Fund.
Mayor Pugh is taking a leave of absence from her position, but we have a long way to go to clean up the corruption in Baltimore and Maryland as a whole.

“The new laws are likely to be interpreted as win for US President Donald Trump, who has taken a strong stance against fentanyl and was full of praise for China in December 2018 when President Xi Jinping first agreed to the move.
“This could be a game changer on what is considered to be the worst and most dangerous, addictive and deadly substance of them all,” Trump posted on Twitter at the time.”
“President Trump designated April as First Step Act Month, which includes cutting prison sentences for thousands of federal inmates, at a ceremony Monday.
He said a âSecond Step Actâ will focus on âsuccessful re-entry and reduced unemployment for Americans with past criminal records.â His goal is to cut that unemployment rate for ex-prisoners to single digits within five years. The White House said Trumpâs budget proposed over $500 million to help prisoners succeed after they’re released.”
“When the president of the National Writers Union heard how much Baltimore Mayor Catherine E. Pugh had been paid for her childrenâs books, he paused.
âWhat?â said Larry Goldbetter, who has led the union for a decade. âNo way.â
Pugh (D) has been paid nearly $700,000 for her self-published âHealthy Hollyâ series by businesses intertwined with the government she has overseen â a figure that has raised eyebrows in the world of childrenâs book publishing, where it can often be hard for even full-time authors to make a living.”
From a member of the Prince George’s County Democratic Central Committee:
“Frankly, this is not enough. The House of Delegates, under the leadership of Speaker Busch, must take a principled stand and begin proceedings to expel Lisanti immediately. It is unconscionable that she remain a representative in Maryland, and any Democratic delegate who defends her is culpable of putting partisan politics ahead of the values the Democratic Party is supposed to stand for.
Del. Mary Ann Lisanti must go. The people of Maryland have no faith in her ability to serve.”
“Nearly a quarter of a million British patients have been waiting more than six months to receive planned medical treatment from the National Health Service, according to a recent report from the Royal College of Surgeons. More than 36,000 have been in treatment queues for nine months or more.â
“The announcement from Smithfield is the latest boost for Cecil County, which has seen a number of companies grow and expand into the rural county in recent months. In December, Great Wolf Lodge announced it would open a location in Perryville, not far from the business park, bringing with it 600 full-time jobs. Northrop Grumman announced last month that it would add 175 more jobs at its Elkton facility.”
âAffluent sections of Maryland can vote for $15 without much worry that a large share of their job base will disappear. Poor counties canât.â
