Meet MDGOP Executive Director
Adam Wood
Adam Wood has a wealth of political knowledge and an extensive background in campaigns, activism, and policy, both on the national and state levels. Mr. Wood has worked with Republicans of all stripes.
Wood has previously managed campaigns across the country, both at the Congressional and state-wide levels. He has also worked on Capitol Hill for nearly a decade, as well as with numerous activist groups on both policy and advocacy. During this time he has worked with the Freedom Caucus, the Tuesday Group, and the libertarian wing of the Republican Party, making him uniquely qualified to work in harmony with the entire MDGOP.
Adam is originally from Lawrence, Kansas and moved to Cockeysville, MD in August of 2022 for a campaign. He fell in love with Maryland and decided to stay and help the Republican cause.
Meet MDGOP Comptroller
James Appel
James Appel is the Comptroller for the Maryland Republican Party. His responsibilities include managing all accounting and HR for the state party and ensuring the party stays in compliance with state and federal campaign finance laws.
James joined the MDGOP Staff in 2017, bringing a wealth of campaign finance experience with him. He is the Vice President of AxCapital, the second largest compliance firm in the country, and in that role he is the comptroller for Delaware, Illinois, Iowa and Kansas, as well as many federal and state entities.
Prior to working on campaign finances full time, he served as the finance director for Cecil County, the Chief of Staff to the CFO at the Department of Health and Human Services in the Trump administration, the CFO for the Maryland Department of Information Technology in the Hogan administration, and the CFO for a division of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric administration.
